Globalfondries, the company created from the old activity of manufacture of processors by AMD since has become completely independent that allows them like others, UMC but especially TSMC to manufacture processors on request.
The company announced to have started the production of chips engraved in 28 nm. According to its remarks, its process of engraving 28 nm would be better than that of TSMC and would make it possible equal smoothness to produce smaller chips 10 to 20%. Compared to the 40 nm, the 28 nm makes it possible to double the density, to increase the frequencies by 50% and to decrease the consumption by 50%.
Its first customer will certainly be AMD, of course the first chips engraved in 28 nm will be graphics cards.
