Interesting article from 9 to 5 Mac on the salesforce.com CEO praising Steve Jobs for leading the current technological evolution.

Apple’s move to embrace mobility with its focus on the iPod, iPhone, iPad and mobile Macs seems set to pay-off, as the App Store angle matches the trajectory of future software sales, leaving former nemesis Microsoft clutching a business model that’s aging fast.

Think about it. Whether it’s Google Apps or iDisk and Mobile Me, Mail, iChat or music-making app, these solutions are rapidly working their way from the desktop computer to online, either as services or as mobile apps.

Salesforce CEO, Marc Benioff sees it this way, noting that Microsoft needs to innovate more to make its business work, “Today’s customers do want far more. In contrast to the innovation stagnation at Microsoft, Apple is delivering in a profound way,” he writes.

Facebook is also an essential part of the way we work today, he notes, and none of it is written with Microsoft software. YouTube, the iPhone and the evolution of cloud computing are all “evidence of a huge shift happening in computing,” he writes. “The only constant in the last 50 years of computing is change,” he adds.

Apple understands this, moving its needle constantly to ensure it remains on the cusp of change – even though it can’t be on the leading edge of everything – take social networking and Mobile Me as an example of that.

“Apple is the clear winner in the new mobile paradigm,” the Salesforce boss writes, arguing that the way we live has changed forever. “Smart phones that run apps have replaced PCs. We are mobile. We touch, not click. We are social, not siloed. Our location is known, not anonymous. We know more about what our friends are doing than our own employees, and sometimes our own families. Facebook, Apple, and a new generation of technologies are defining our daily experiences. The old model looks older every day as it tries to hold on in a last gasp of updates based on stability instead of innovation.”

And that innovation is why former Microsoft exec, Benioff, notes, “Steve Jobs has once again reminded us of that lesson and has shared with us the rewards.”
